“Right Hand Man” is a song from Something Rotten sung by Bea, who is trying to convince her husband to let her get a job and earn some money. I love this character and her song is ridiculously fun to sing. I started learning “Right Hand Man” as soon as my theatre company announced that we were doing the show, and working on this song really helped strengthen my belting.

“Caro Mio Ben” is an Italian aria that means “Ah, dearest love, believe me, when I am without you, my heart languishes.” I love the beauty of this piece and its slow pace helped me strengthen my breath control. It also had some cool ornaments at the end to play around with.

“Se Florindo E Fedele” is an Italian aria which translates to “If Florindo is faithful, I will fall in love, but the normal methods of wooing do not impress me”. This song was chock-full of ornaments so I had a lot of fun with the latter half of it, and I really enjoyed doing something upbeat, even if the Italian was hard to learn.

“On the Steps of the Palace” is a song from Into the Woods sung by Cinderella, who finds herself stuck on the palace stairs faced with a decision. I sang this song at age 9 when I played Cinderella in the show, which was my first experience in a serious musical, and I recently re-learned it as part of my repertoire for Certificate of Merit and for the fun of it. Plus, my theatre company is doing Into the Woods this year, which is a fun full-circle moment for me.
